Not one to take or evenn really apriciate photo's ... but I found a few things, see if they help.
- dont really thinkthe hair and how its displaid is working with the relaxed pose of your model - felt the same thing with the pillows she's leening up against ... to mainy lines there - also smoke would have looked better from the sigarette (or the model as she breathes out smoke)
thats all the time and effort I'm going to grant this picture John, sir.
hope I as a non picture taker was able to help you in some way,
Sure it is helpful, everything is. But were I to ask her to comb her hair first, I wonder how relaxed she would look? And there is smoke coming up from the cigarette if you look more closely. Hmm, there are a lot of cushion lines, I agree ... but again, it is a moment caught, to which I shall reply below ...
left out the fact that I see a lack of talent in all picture makers due to the moment that should take the credit not the one pushing a button on the other side ... but that is irrelivant isnt it ?
Ahh, but there you miss the point. It is precisely that moment that is chosen by the photographer .. that split second which personalizes his perception of the scene. In the case of living beings also, it is their reaction to the presence of the photographer that counts. Are you sure that if you had taken this shot, this young lady would have that exact expression on her face? Would she have left that leg rest against the back of the setee in that manner? Would her general demeanour and body language be the same ?
When you do your carricatures in the form of cartoons, you simulate the exact moment that you would like to find, you can do it more or less at will. We as photographers must seize and sometimes create that moment ... : -)
The composition and the balance is wonderful! The darkness of her stockings completely balances the dark floors and the ashtray and glass break up the dark enough to balance the couch.
Is that just a great talent you have naturally, or did you set up the shot just like that on purpose?
